Our teenage years are definitely some of our most testing years, well that's what I found anyways. At 22 years of age, I do have a whole lotta more learning to do but I also feel like I have learnt a whole lot too. I can certainly say I am now at the most happy place I've ever been in my life and to be able to say that, feels pretty amazing.
I do of course, still carry some struggles that I always have and life will always throw a spanner in the works to try and f*ck things up but overall, life ain't so bad! Some people say your teenage years are the best of your life and someday you'll look back and want to relive them, well I can already say that will never be the case for me so here's some things I would tell my teenage self, that would have perhaps have made those adolescent years run a tad more smoothly..
LEARN A LIL SOMETHING ABOUT MAKE UP GUUUURL - most of us 90's kids didn't have the privelege of learning from Youtube make up gurus and had to learn the hard way when it came to make-up.. the very hard way. Foundation lips, no eyebrows, no concealer, no hi-lighter, no contour, maybeline dream mouse foundation ten shades too dark - this is beginning to sound like a horror movie so I'm gunna leave this one here, but if you know, you know!
TALK ABOUT HOW YOUR'E FEELING - I discussed my mental breakdown on the blog before but if you didn't see that, basically after years of going through periods of feeling anxious/down it all accumulated during my last year in secondary school and ended up in me not attending school for the whole last term. I can't stress enough how important it is to talk about how your'e feeling, I'll never forget the relief I felt when it all just came out and I finally got an answer for why I was feeling this way, to be able to recognise why I was feeling the way I was, enabled me to actually breathe again.
HE AIN'T WORTH YOUR TEARS - If you are in a teenage or were in a teenage relationship and it works out, I'm happy for you but for the most part this isn't the case and it may seem like the end of the world at the time but TRUST ME, it's not. As a teenager your world is a lot smaller as your'e pretty much in the same place most of the time and you haven't experienced much outside of your little bubble so you feel like everything about your relationship ending will be surrounding you constantly and there's no getting away from it, well na-ah that is not the case. It will be totally ok, I was never really a believer in 'everything happens for a reason', but the path my life has taken me in has me re-evaluating that phrase and thinking it may just be the case.
YOU'RE NOT 'FAT', YA BLEEDIN' EGIT - Again, body confidence is something I'm continuously working on but looking back at pictures now from times where I saw myself as 'pudgy' etc., I'm thinking 'what was I on?!'. I do think teenage years are very difficult with regards body image because so many changes are taking place and I found it extremely hard as I wanted this 'perfect' image but now I've thankfully realised that perfection is a load of shite! We're all real, we ain't perfect and that is totally A-OK!
DON'T GET SO DRUNK - Your teenage years are usually when you are introduced to alcohol for the first time and you start going out and trying to get into nightclubs using your cousins ID who looks nothing like you. Learning my limits with alcohol took a lot longer than it should have and I really did test my limits, getting black out drunk IS NOT FUN, it's actually terrifying and would leave me feeling so down for days after, alcohol is a depressant after all.
