Last weekend myself and the boyf decided to head to Limerick for a night as we had planned to go to a rugby match in Thomond Park and thought making a night of it would be nice as I never actually had been in Limerick city before and as I said in my last blog post I want to travel more in and out of Ireland this year so this was an ideal start to that plan.
WHERE WE STAYED
We stayed in The George Boutique Hotel which we both absolutely loved. It is situated right in the middle of town so location wise it couldn't have been better for us and even though it's in the middle of a city, noise within our room wasn't an issue once.
The decor is right up my alley, it's modern and chic and the reception area is really unique with a glass lift bringing you right up to the the check in area, so from the first impressions I knew I'd really like this place. Our room was fab, really clean and the bed was up there with the comfiest I've been in. I adore skyline views so the view from our room was ideal looking over Limerick City. I'd 100% stay here again.

WHERE WE ATE
The boyf had lived in Limerick for 4 years so he had decided before we even left that we had to have dinner in Texas Steakout and I was more than happy with that as I am terrible when it comes to decision making processes so that made things a whole pile easier on both of us. It's actually just a few steps from where we were staying too so I was v happy to discover that in my high heel sandles. It's known as a very popular choice in Limerick and I can see why. There's literally any type of food you could want on the menu so if you can't agree on somewhere to eat, you're bound to find something on their menu that suits everyone and even though it's known as a steakhouse, I noticed they have a nice vegetarian selection also. We shared nachos to start and I'm such a fan of nachos so they hit the spot nicely. I then had beef tacos for my main course, (I don't know what my Mexican theme was about but I was feeling it) and I really enjoyed them, they had the perfect kick of spice to them. I also tasted the boyf's main course which was a ribs and chicken dish in some beaut of a sauce and we both agreed it was A1. We then shared a banana split for dessert and to say we struggled to get through it would be an understatement, we were so full but couldn't pass up on a sweet treat. I'd definitely recommend this place for a bite to eat if your'e around Limerick.
Of course, we weren't up in time to get the hotel breakfast so we wandered across the road to Arabica Coffee and decided to go with more of a lunch rather than breakfast because we weren't going to be eating again for another while. We opted for the exact same thing (criiiiiingeeee) lol which was a turkey and stuffing sandwich with cranberry sauce and both minus the mayonnaise with a side of soup. It's actually such good value in there as the soup is free with any sandwich. Also, I have to mention the staff were lovely in there, it's little things like that which make all the difference.
WHAT WE DID
Rugby Match at Thomond Park
So the whole reason we came to Limerick was for the Munster v Castres rugby game. The reason we ended up going was because I was running a competition in work to win tickets to this match and thought as I've never been to a rugby game before I'd actually like to go so I went ahead and bought some tickets. I'm not a rugby fan at all or any sports fan (I'm clueless) but I can always enjoy an atmosphere at games etc so I thought it would be a good shout. The day of the match it was lashing rain so the game actually ended up being postponed 3 hours but we really didn't mind and headed back into Limerick to have a couple of drinks. The match itself was actually so good even for someone that had no idea what was going on. The atmosphere and crowd were great, We both really enjoyed it and would absolutely go to another rugby game after such a good introduction to it. I was really impressed with Thomond Park as a stadium, it's pretty impressive.
Shopping
The day after the match we had planned to drive out to The Crescent Shopping Centre but first had a wander through some of the shops in town. Limerick really does have pretty much all you would want when it comes to shopping. We went into Brown Thomas because I just always love a browse, browse being the main adjective there. We also popped over to Debenhams, New Look, Schuh and Sostrene Grene while we were in town. I actually didn't buy anything in town, oh except for a pair of boots in the New Look sale the day before as I decided I needed something more match appropriate than my high boots for the game, I had to admit defeat and accept I couldn't walk anymore in my higher boots. We then drove out to the Crescent Shopping Centre which is about a 10 min drive from the city centre. This shopping centre had most of my faves including Zara, H&M, Penneys, River Island, Boots and Selected Femme (which is actually a very recent favourite). I ended up picking up a top in Penneys and some other bits that you can't go into Penneys without picking up. I also picked up a pair of pants in Zara which I have been on the hunt for for the longest time. I then of course, picked up some of the essentials in Boots.
A walk around the UL campus
The boyf went to college in UL so he suggested we go to the campus for a walk around as he knows I'm a big fan of unusual and pretty buildings and it was actually such a nice thing to do and something I would have never thought of doing. The campus is pretty huge so you can get a good walk in. The River Shannon runs through it also so that certainly adds to the whole prettiness of it. I've also decided I want to move into the white house I have pictured above, I mean how stun is it?!
I hope you enjoyed this post and I do hope to bring more posts like this as part of my mission to travel more this year, if you have any question on any of the above, I'd be more than happy to answer what I can so just drop me a message wherever! :)
